Participation in the 20th Nihongo Speech Contest in Cebu by Consul General KAWASAKI (February5, 2022)

 On February 5, Consul General Toshihide KAWASAKI attended as a judge at the 20th Nihongo Speech Contest in Cebu via Zoom, which was organized by the Japanese Association Cebu in cooperation with Japan Foundation in Manila.  
 In his welcome remarks, Consul General Kawasaki congratulated on this year’s Nihongo Speech Contest as a commemorative contest because the contest reached 20th this year in the 40th anniversary of foundation of the Japanese Association. In addition, he announced that he would give the Special Award to one of the speakers in commemoration of the first attendance by the Consul General of Japan in Cebu after the Consulate- General of Japan in Cebu opened last year.
 The contest successfully nominated three qualified speakers for the 49th Nihongo Speech Contest 2022 in Manila. The Special Award by Consul General went to Ms. Virginia Francis for her speech entitled ‘Unbreakable’. She made a speech about her strong determination to overcome the suffering from the COVID-19, referring to a Japanese proverb “七転び八起き” that means “Even you fail seven times, stand up eight times to success”.
