Greetings from Consul-General Yudai UENO
2025/12/26
Greetings to everyone visiting our website of Consulate-General of Japan in Cebu,
Thank you for your visiting our website, I am Yudai Ueno, new Consul-General of Japan in Cebu, and I assumed my post on December 19, 2025.
I would like to introduce myself to you. My professional career as a diplomat allowed me to engage closely with the Philippines as I used to be assigned at the Embassy of Japan in Manila two times before. This time, I am honored to be appointed as Consul-General of Japan in Cebu and very glad to be able to serve in Cebu, the Philippines again.
Cebu holds a special place in my heart. I first came here in 1996, when the Japanese consular office in Cebu was newly established. I was involved in opening the office as a young officer. Then, I have returned to Cebu almost 30 years later as Consul-General this time, which fills me with deep emotion and great pleasure.
The Consulate-General of Japan in Cebu is responsible for the Visayas region, covering 16 provinces, where there are many Japanese nationals living in the region as well as numerous Japanese tourists seeking for its natural beauty and warm hospitality, and opportunities for English-language study as well. At the same time, many Japanese companies continue to maintain their presence in Cebu, while Cebu province is actively promoting investment from around the world as well as Japan. Moreover, inter-local cooperation between LGUs of Japan and Visayas has steadily been increasing recently. I firmly believe that exchanges between Japan and Visayas will further deepen in various areas.
The year 2026 will mark the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Philippines. As we approach this important milestone, I feel a deep sense of pride and responsibility as Consul-General and am fully committed to doing my best to further strengthen our ties between Japan and Visayas in the Philippines.
In closing, I sincerely wish everyone a prosperous and fulfilling year ahead.
